“Need for Speed – Payback” is a racing game and is the twenty-third installment in the “Need for Speed” series. It is developed by “Ghost Games” and published by “Electronic Arts”. The game was released worldwide on November 10, 2017 for Microsoft Windows.

To resolve Need for Speed Payback error 0xc000007b issue, let’s have a look at the possible fixes:

 


1. 32 bit vs 64 bit conflict

 

You may get this error when 32-bit and 64-bit environments conflict with each other. For e.g. you might have installed supporting software like Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables for 32 bit system whereas your system is built under 64 bit architecture.

 

Make sure you install the correct version of software compatible with the architecture of your system. Try reinstalling:

 

Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables

.Net Framework

Latest version of DirectX compatible with game (DX 11)

 


2. Windows update:

 

Make sure that the Operating system is up to date. If it is not, then open “Windows Settings>Update and Security” (Windows 10) and click “Check for updates”. It will automatically update your system with the latest updates.

 

Windows 10 keeps updating automatically when the system is connected to internet.

 


3. Temporary Files

 

Try deleting temporary files on the system. For this:

 

  • Press “Windows+R” to open “Run” window.
  • Enter “%temp%” and click “Ok”. This will open the temporary folder.
  • Delete all the files in this folder.
  • Try starting the game.

 


4. Origin client

 

If the above mentioned fixes didn’t work for you, try clean installation of “Origin”. For that, follow the steps given below:


Step 1: Processes and services related to “Origin”:

 

Close all the running processes and services related to “Origin”. For this, try the following steps:

 

  • Exit “Origin”
  • Open “Task Manager” by pressing “Ctrl+Alt+Del” key and selecting “Task Manager”
  • Switch to “details” tab and close all the “Origin” related services like “OriginWebHelperService” or “OriginClientService” if running.
  • Go to the location “C:/Program Files (x86)” and delete the folder named “Origin”.

Step 2: Deleting residual registry entries:

 

Next step is to delete the registry entries related to Origin. Before deleting the registry entries, make sure you have created a backup of all the registries in case something goes wrong.

 

Creating backup of Registry entries:

 

  • Press “Window+R” to open “Run” window.
  • Enter “regedit” and click “Ok” to open “Registry Editor”.
  • Click “Yes” if prompted by “User Account control” for permission.
  • Click “File>Export” and under “Export Range”, select “All”
  • Give some file name to backup and select the location where you want to save the backup.
  • Click “Save” button to create and save the backup of registries.

 

Deleting Registry entries of “Origin”

 

  • In the left pane of “Registry Editor” window, expand to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>WOW6432node>Origin” .
  • There could be multiple entries with the same name. Make sure you select correct one which contains “Origin” folder.
  • Right click and select “Delete” to remove the entry from registries.
  • Similarly, expand to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Uninstall>Origin”
  • Right click and select “Delete” to remove the entry from registries.
  • Exit the “Registry Editor”

 


Step 3: Cache of Origin

 

Next step is to delete the cache of the “Origin” client. To do this, try the steps given below (Windows 10):

 

  • In the explorer, switch to “View” tab.
  • In “Show/Hide” options, check the checkbox for “hidden items” if not checked already.
  • Now, go to the location “C:/Program Data/Origin”
  • Delete the folder and try running the game.

Step 4: Reinstalling Origin client:

 

After doing all the steps mentioned above, try reinstalling “Origin”. Download the “Origin” Client from Origin site and install it as administrator
